What to do if You Have an Ares Download Problem?
In answer to some of the problems of past P2P file sharing communities, Ares download is quickly becoming sought after information. These are some of the common problems associated with an Ares download.
Check your firewall. It’s entirely possible that your firewall is simply not letting the program through. All you need to do is add an exception for Ares.
This isn’t as much a problem for systems running Windows XP as it is for those with Vista. If you’ve added an exception to your Vista firewall and it’s still not working, see if you have Norton 360 running. The anti-virus program is notoriously picky, so you may have to add an exception here as well.
Change your upload bandwidth. Many people have slow downloads because they placed their bandwidth setting at, say, 2. This is fine if you’re on a slow connection and you don’t want your Ares download to overwhelm your surfing, chatting, and other things you’re trying to do online.
But if you have a connection with a reasonable speed, go ahead and kick your bandwidth setting somewhere between the 5 and 10 range. You can even set it at 0 to signify “unlimited” bandwidth! This should make sure you get your files as fast as possible for your connection.
Check your version of the software. Did you get your Ares download software prior to May 20, 2009? If so, you’ll do yourself a favor if you go and download the new version.
What has been the problem, exactly? The nodes that Ares normally uses have become overloaded as of late. The new version of the software has a “hack” or “patch” on it, an advanced technique that can work around the overload and arrange for a successful initial connection.
