How Islamic Clothes Blends Western Styles With Traditional Looks

The globalization and mixture of the worlds various cultures and traditions has resulted in a blend of clothing styles all across the globe. Where there used to be region specific clothes that were seen only in that particular area, it has changed drastically in today’s world. Ease of travel and communication has brought forward the melange of different dress styles and new fashions have emerged all over that reflect certain traditional and ethnic features of different locations into the products that are accepted worldwide.

This phenomenon is also apparent in the changes seen today in the Islamic clothes that are being worn in numerous modern cities across the world. Where previously only simple and minimalistic was the approach for designing clothes to be worn by the Muslims, today that is not the case. Designers; not only Muslim but also non Muslim, are venturing into creating outfits and ensembles for the followers of Islam that incorporate different fashions and traditions other than the basic Islamic ones. The western cuts and styles in particular have great influence upon the Islamic clothes that are displayed and worn in the present time.

So why the west some might ask, and the answer to that is simple and straight forward. The western society today has a huge impact on nations all around the world. With Multinational organizations reaching into the deprived areas as well as the thriving ones, they create a global village that is accessible to all. When people work in these environments with natives from other countries, it becomes important for them to blend in with each other while still retaining their own identities. Dressing up is one of the ways that can combine yet set apart a group of people.

Although Muslims opt to dress up in Islamic clothes regardless of the place, environment or circumstances they might be in, there is no objection to wearing Islamic clothes that are fashionable and stylish at the same time. Working with Westerners, many Muslims choose to wear clothes that are Islamic yet western at the same time. This is where the input of the well renowned Islamic clothes designers comes in. Big name apparel artists work hard to create a mixture of the east and the west that is trendy and chic at the same time.

Cuts and shape of the Islamic clothes like abayas, jilbabs and jubbas have therefore evolved to quite an extent to incorporate western outfit features like collars, cuffs and slits. These all add a look of westernization to the more traditional Islamic clothes while still remaining modest and decent and in keeping with the doctrines of Islam.
